Jasmine Seymour’s Baby Business is an evocative and moving picture book about a First Nations People’s baby smoking ceremony. Released by Magabala books it is a rich, beautiful book that took my breath away.
I was thrilled when I learned Jasmine was going to illustrate Family, the second book in the Our Place series written by Aunty Fay Muir and I.
July is release month for picture book Family, so it’s no surprise my first Portable Magic guest for the month is Jasmine Seymour.
Jasmine is a Darug woman who lives and teaches in the Hawkesbury area of New South Wales. She’s a descendant of Maria Lock, whose father Yarramundi, a Boorooberongal Elder, met Governor Phillip on the Hawkesbury in 1791.
Jasmine is not only a talented writer and illustrator, but a strong, fascinating woman. Enjoy our chat.
